Greening Christ Church - Our ECO Church Journey

September 2023 Update.

Our journey to be better caretakers of God’s creation.

With the news in July that Christ Church was awarded the Silver Eco Church Award, we now turn our attention to working towards the Gold level award

Our church grounds continue to look amazing as the photos below will testify. Thanks to the Greening Christ Church gardening team – who meet on a Thursday morning between 10 a.m. and 12 noon. If you feel called to action to help out please do let the Church Office know

The Christ Church Energy Footprint

In August, Paul Hunt (ALP & Greening Christ Church)  uploaded data supplied by Les Sheppard (Treasurer) and Catherine Benbough (Office Administrator) to the  Church of England Energy footprint toolkit website. We only use electricity at Christ Church and the tariff is a green energy one.  Once we had inputted our energy bill details, the size of the church, opening hours and typical church attendance, our footprint is calculated. The results are below

By achieving the Bronze and Silver Eco Church award, we have already started our journey towards being carbon net zero by 2030.   Our next steps in the coming years is to have energy efficient lighting installed throughout, with timers and light and motion sensors where appropriate. We can also start to think about installing solar energy

Environmental Sunday 2023

On Sunday 24^th September we held our annual Environmental Sunday service – the live stream of the service can be viewed here

Paul Hunt (ALP and Greening Christ Church) used the readings from Psalm 65 : 9-13 and Luke 12:22-34 and gave a talk highlighting the amazing planet we live on as well as the current focus of reducing plastic waste in the oceans.  A few of the slides from the talk can be seen below

We were reminded that God has created a world that can provide everything we need, and our task is to be better caretakers of the wonderful gift of creation that God has given us
